Taxes will decrease in 2024 for Broome County residents according to a release from Broome County Executive Jason Garnar's office.

This is the 6th year in a row that taxes have gone down in Broome County. The final budget reduces the property tax rate by 4%. The 2024 budget will also include additional investments in public safety, infrastructure, and upgrading the county workforce.

For the sixth year in a row, we’ve enacted a responsible bi-partisan County Budget on behalf of the people of Broome County. This budget once again saves taxpayers money while making Broome County an even better and safer place to live, work, and visit. Thank you to our Budget Director, Department Heads, Chairman Dan Reynolds, and my partners in the County Legislature for working with me to cut taxes and make new investments for our future. - Broome County Executive Jason Garnar

The Broome County Executive's Office also notes other highlights of the budget including a record-breaking county road construction program, with over 80 miles of paving planned for 2024.

Also, there will be funding for the renovation of the Greater Binghamton Airport, as well as Grippen Park, the SUNY Broome Health Center, and the construction of a Veterans Resource Center.

In addition, according to the Broome County Executive's Office, the 2024 budget allows for an additional $3,000,000 for county employee upgrades to retain and attract new employees, $500,000 for small community grants for non-profit agencies and municipalities, plus the addition of 4 more members of the Sheriff’s road patrol to increase public safety.

The Office of the Broome County Legislature notes that they held over 40 public meetings, including meetings with county departments to discuss details of their proposed budget. The legislature also held a public hearing to accept comments on the proposed 2024 budget.

We keep a very close eye on the numbers as we review each budget page-by-page and line-by-line. Residents should rest assured that the state of Broome County’s finances is strong as we head into 2024. - 1st District Legislator and Finance Committee Chair Steve Flagg
