Boo! Halloween Will Cost You More This Year

As we come to the end of September, wacky as it may seem, the Halloween season has been in effect for at least a month. Just like the Christmas season, it just seems to begin earlier each year.

Either way, we are still a month away from Halloween, and the decorations, costumes, and candy are lined up on shelves across many stores. This year, I need to decide if I will participate in handing out candy. Over the past few decades, I was a DJ for a local Halloween dance, but it's no longer happening, so for the first time in a long time, I will be home for Halloween.

I was pricing out candy recently, and wow, it's not cheap. And I have no idea how much to even buy I'm guessing it will cost me between $20 and $25 dollars for candy to hand out. Talk Business reports that candy prices increased two percent between July and August of this year. That's 12.7 percent more than in 2021, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

According to Talk Business, just under 11 billion dollars will be spent on Halloween products this year. That's a lot of money. The article mentions that consumers will spend on average, $100 dollars purchasing any combinations of candy, costumes, and decorations.

Talk Business even states that pumpkins cost more this year than in previous years. Pumpkins went for an average of $4.83 each in 20221 and $4.18 in 2020. the article also mentions that candy package sizes have shrunk in price in order to increase profit.

Good grief Charlie Brown, the Great Pumpkin and all that goes with Halloween sure are more expensive in 2022. Now that's scary.
