April 4, 2024, is Come and Play Day at the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City, organized by the Family Violence Prevention Council of Broome County, Dick's Sporting Goods and several community agencies.

Come and Play Day is designed to bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month, along with positive community opportunities and resources used to build a hopeful future for children The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Family Violence Prevention Council of Broome County notes that free rock climbing will be provided with a signed waiver at Dick’s House of Sport at the Oakdale Commons, along with a spring obstacle course. Over 25 organizations displaying health and wellness acts will be at the Oakdale Commons Center Court, and there will be many activities for children as well.

Face painting, balloon animals, and local team mascots will be a part of the Come and Play Day, along with artwork from the 3rd Annual Art Contest.

The Family Violence Prevention Council of Broome County was formed in 1985 and its purpose is to provide a forum to address the incidence and effects of family violence in the community.

According to the council website, its goals are to help prevent family violence, maltreatment, and neglect including child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse; protect the most vulnerable members of families and end family abuse where it has occurred and strengthen and support families and individuals to live lives free of family violence.
