Hochul Says She Plans to Seek Full Term as Governor Next Year
Kathy Hochul - who is expected to become New York governor later this month - intends to run for a full four-year term in 2022.
Governor Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced he planned to resign effective August 24. Lieutenant governor Hochul would succeed him through his third term which runs through the end of next year.
Hochul told NBC News Thursday morning said she expects to run for governor in the 2022 election.
Hochul, who will be the first female governor of New York, said she "will not be distracted" by the controversy surrounding Cuomo, including the debate as to whether he should be impeached.
Hochul said she wants the "process to play out independently" while she focuses on her priority of addressing the growing number of Covid-19 cases in the state.
