My family has slowly been easing away from buying material gifts and instead, we're giving each other experiences- things that will create memories that will last much longer than an object. It wasn't long after our son was born that Jay came home with little kid hockey sticks and Flyers onsies- he wanted to teach his boy about hockey right from the start and now when Jay sits on the living room floor playing floor hockey with John, they both laugh so much.

Jay is from Philadelphia, so naturally, he's a Flyers fan. The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are the minor league affiliate for the Flyers and they take on the B-Sens on Saturday the 19th. So, when I saw that the Phantoms were coming to town, I knew that I needed to get tickets and that I needed for our seats to be on the glass and right by the visitors bench.

I know that Jay will never forget taking John to his first hockey game and watching guys who will one day play for the Flyers. I know that this experience will lead to many conversations for the rest of my husband's life.

I know all of this because for Jay's first Father's Day, I surprised him with Phillies baseball tickets and he constantly talks about how fun that day was and that he got to share it with his little boy.

So, if you're at the hockey game on Saturday and you see my little family all decked out in our Flyers/Phantoms gear, please don't heckle us too harshly. We're making lifetime memories.  And, if you're struggling to come up with the perfect gift for the impossible to buy for person, why not consider giving them an experience?

If you're curious about our Phillies experience, here are some photos.
