Former Owego Mayor John Shafer Passes Away

Funeral services will be held over the weekend for former Village of Owego Mayor Dr. John Shafer.

According to the obituary placed by the family, Shafer, who served four terms as Mayor of Owego and one term as Trstee, passed away May 1 at the age of 84.

Shafer was credited with a number of revitalization projects and participated in community service projects his entire life.

Family will receive friends May 4 fro 3-5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Union Church at 90 North Avenue, Owego with Memorial Services May 5 at 2 p.m at the church.

The family says memorial donations can be made to the Coburn Free Library elevator fund, 275 Main Street, Owego 13827.
