The Food Bank of the Southern Tier does so much for our community to help feed the hungry in our area. They were there to help with food insecurity during the pandemic. They distribute food to people struggling with hunger through a network of 165 food pantries, meal programs, shelters, and other hunger relief agencies.

They serve Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins counties and it can be a thankless job. So we think it's awesome that they recently received some national recognization for all the hard work that they do.

The food bank is a member of Feeding America and they were honored at their recent conference. The 2022 Feeding America national conference was held in April in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Food Bank Of The Southern Tier Receives National Recognition

This is a chance for all the food banks and pantries to get together and learn from each other. This year's theme was "Connected Together" and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier was recognized with the Boundless Collaboration Award.

They were honored for their work with other New York State food banks in identifying the problems that low-income New Yorkers were having. It centered around those that were economically displaced by the pandemic and helping them find dairy products.

They were part of the Boundless Collaboration program and participated in the Direct Dairy Delivery pilot program along with 13 other agencies. Food Bank President and CEO, Natasha Thompson was appreciative of the award and said "we are stronger together and cannot do this critical work alone."

The Food Bank continues to work together to build and sustain hunger-free communities throughout the Southern Tier. If you are in need of food or want to make a difference by volunteering (they need 500 a week), go here.

Congratulations to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and thank you for everything that you do. If you still need convincing about how food insecurity hits the kids of the Southern Tier, maybe this will help.
