With gas prices continuing to rise and expected to hit 5 dollars a gallon any day now, more people are trying to figure out what to do closer to home. If that's you then you might really like this idea that the Triple Cities Hiking Club and Go All Out Broome County have come up with.
It's the Broome County Dozen Hiking Challenge. This is where you are encouraged to go to a dozen of the best hiking gems in Broome County including municipal parks and local nature preserves.
With the warmer weather approaching, one of the best things that you can do outside is to take a hike...literally. We live in a beautiful area and I don't think that we take enough time to enjoy it.

Here's your chance to check out 12 different sites in our area, enjoy the beauty that surrounds us and earn a special "Broome County Dozen Hiking Challenge" patch. There are 12 different sites to go to and you can go at your own pace.
If you are more of a person that likes to look around and take pictures, this is the challenge for you. If you like to go at a faster pace, this is for you. Every location provides a different challenge and overall you'll go about 40 miles.
You can track your hikes, some trails are better marked than others, so planning ahead is a good idea. Here are some of the parks that you'll be visiting in Broome County.

The purpose of this is to get some exercise, enjoy the outdoors and it's an awesome chance to get together with friends. We've been cooped up long enough, let's enjoy some fresh Southern Tier air.
