Endicott Police Investigate Washington Avenue Shooting

Two blocks of Washington Avenue in Endicott were closed following reports that shots had been fired.

Police say people in the area of 140 Washington Avenue reported gunshots were heard around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The shooter and the person who was apparently the target were gone when officers arrived at the scene.

Police shut down Washington Avenue between East Main and Monroe streets for about two hours.

Endicott Mayor Linda Jackson said there were no reports of injuries as a result of the incident, which happened north of the post office.

Union-Endicott High School, which is located about one block south of the scene, started the morning with a "shelter-in-place" operation shortly after the shooting.

School superintendent Nicole Wolfe said the school then was put into "lockout" mode with classroom instruction taking place as usual.

The district administrative offices and Jennie F. Snapp Middle School also were placed in "lockout" status as a precaution.
