Byrne Dairy wants to open a convenience store in Endicott and Mayor Linda Jackson is ready to welcome the company to the village.

Jackson said she's "confident" Endicott officials will clear the way for the project at a site where a Friendly's restaurant had operated for years.

The property at East Main Street and Loder Avenue has been quiet since the eatery suddenly closed its doors in April 2019.

Jackson said Byrne, which is based near Syracuse, recently expressed interest in the site.

Although a recently-implemented tobacco control law could keep the project from going forward, the mayor said she expects the village will permit the store to locate there.

Jackson said "it's a family-oriented company" that would provide a significant amount of tax revenue.

The mayor said: "We're going to have Byrne here."

Byrne Dairy now operates more than 60 stores in upstate New York, including units in Cortland and Homer.
