VIDEO: Driver Hurt When Car Collides with Truck in Vestal

A woman was pinned in her vehicle after it collided with a tractor-trailer used to transport compressed natural gas in Vestal.

The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on Route 26 at Hazel Drive, a short distance south of the Vestal Parkway.

Police say a Hyundai Sonata was turning from Hazel Drive onto Route 26 when the collision occurred. The truck was operated by Xpress Natural Gas of Andover, Massachusetts.

An 84-year-old woman who had been driving the car was extricated by Vestal firefighters. She was taken to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton for treatment of minor injuries.

Police said the driver of the car was issued a ticket for failure to yield.

A statement released by XNG indicated the truck operator was not injured. The company said according to witness reports, the car pulled in front of the truck at the intersection.

The XNG statement said its trucks are tracked using GPS equipment. It said the GPS information indicated the company vehicle "was traveling below the posted speed limit."

Route 26 was closed to southbound traffic around the crash scene for about 45 minutes.
