The DMV office in Endicott reopened for walk-in service June 15th with the Binghamton office following a week later. But, starting July 20, both offices will only going to be assisting customers by appointment.

Officials say the temporary shift into reverse is being done out of “an abundance of caution.”

Following the reopening of the local offices, lines have formed outside the venues with motorists camped out with their lawn chairs, sometimes for hours, waiting to get business done that they could not or preferred not to do online.

The Broome County Clerk’s office says it has been a struggle to enforce social distancing in the lines outside the DMV offices and it’s hoped going to appointments will reduce congestion and further protect the health and safety of staff as well as customers.
