Cuomo Concerned About Coronavirus Overwhelming Hospital System
Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling on the federal government to implement a comprehensive national policy to deal with the coronavirus.
Speaking at an Albany briefing Sunday afternoon, Cuomo said steps must be taken now to increase hospital capacity and automated testing.
The governor said there "can't be a national policy of every state doing its own thing."
Cuomo warned there is going to be a wave of COVID-19 cases in the coming days and weeks. He expressed concern that the U.S. healthcare system will be overwhelmed.
The governor called on President Trump to utilize the military and the Army Corps of Engineers to help address the challenges the nation now is facing.
Cuomo said "we are looking at a new war that no one has seen before."
The governor encouraged private business operators to have employees work from home and consider voluntary closures.
Cuomo said he could decide to take mandatory action if his request for voluntary steps are not adequate.
