It’s the end of the Collier Street Parking Garage in Downtown Binghamton.

As announced last month, the facility, with hundreds of parking spaces at the corners of Hawley, State and Collier Streets is closed as of November 9. A sign at the Collier Street entrance warns motorists that if their cars aren't out of the ramp, they will be towed at the owner's expense.

Top levels of the ramp were closed earlier this year and as repairs were being made in an effort to prolong the life of the facility for a year or two more, more problems were found and the City decided the ramp could not survive another winter.

The garage will be torn down in the spring and some surface parking will be available before the development of a multi-use facility, including parking, gets underway.

The drivers who have been parking at Collier Street are moved to the State Street and Water Street parking garages, putting even more of a crunch on a limited number of spots in those garages.

The City is still evaluating where there may be other parking options that would work for businesses, customers, residents and workers downtown.
