Chenango County Man Accused of Child Sexual Abuse
A New Berlin resident faces charges after he allegedly had sexual contact with a child.
Authorities say 33-year-old Robert West III was arrested Sunday by New York State Police.
Investigators say troopers were sent to a home in the town of Columbus where they were told West had touched a child in a sexual manner. The child was under the age of 14.
West also was accused of sending messages of a sexual nature to the child via the Snapchat messaging app.
West has been charged with second-degree sexual abuse and forcible touching. He also was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
West was arraigned in North Norwich town court and sent to Chenango County Jail on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Norwich city court at a later date.
