An out-of-control vehicle veered off Main Street in Johnson City, knocking down a light pole and smashing into a bench before ending up on its roof in front of the public library.

The Chrysler Sebring was westbound when it jumped the curb just before 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Although the sound of the crash was heard inside Your Home Public Library at 107 Main Street, operations were not affected.

Johnson City police said the driver was the only occupant in the car at the time of the crash. He was able to speak with officers and his injuries did not appear to be serious. He was transported to Wilson Medical Center to be evaluated.

Main Street was closed between Lester and Carhart avenues until the wrecked vehicle could be removed.
