Camila Cabello Was Almost The Featured Voice on The Chainsmokers’ ‘Closer’
Is the sound of The Chainsmokers' unstoppable 2016 hit "Closer," which features Halsey, still etched into your eardrums? Consider for a moment that it could have sounded verrrrry different.
In a new interview with The Elvis Duran Show, ex-Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello said that she was nearly the song's featured artist. After listening back to her demo of the track (you can hear it in the clip above), she said she was a huge fan of the song, but that she ultimately had to turn down the opportunity to commit because of obligations to 5H.
“I loved the song,” she said. "But I had to turn it down because I was with the group at the time, and we were about to put an album out. I always tried to do my solo stuff off cycle, so that was super on, and so I had to say no, and then that was the number one song in the world.”
What could have been...
Halsey, meanwhile, told Rolling Stone the experience of recording and releasing the song "fine-tuned my sense about my new music," adding "It threw me into the deep end...I went from being this underground blog girl to being this mainstream thing."
