Cal Harris, the Tioga County man who was acquitted of murder after his wife vanished in 2001, faces DWI and other charges following a crash on Interstate 81.

Authorities said the 56-year-old Owego man was arrested around 8 p.m. Friday after a reported hit-and-run crash in Cortland County.

According to New York State Police, Harris was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. Officials said his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.13 percent.

Investigators said Harris also was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and other traffic violations.

Police said the collision involving a vehicle driven by Harris happened in the town of Preble. They said a motorist called 911 to report that a GMC Sierra pickup truck had sideswiped a vehicle while both were traveling south on I-81.

The caller advised the dispatcher that the pickup truck left the highway at the Homer exit.

Troopers found the suspect vehicle and stopped it on Hillside Drive in the town of Cortlandville.

Harris was issued tickets returnable to Preble town court on January 9.

In May 2016, a jury in Schoharie County found Harris not guilty of murder in his fourth trial in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Michele.

In June 2016, Harris was accused of stalking a state police investigator in Otsego County.

In August 2016, Harris was found guilty of harassment in connection with a 2015 incident in the village of Owego. He was fined and ordered to go to anger management counseling after that conviction.

Harris has filed a federal lawsuit accusing law enforcement officials and others of targeting him after his wife vanished.
