Broome Inmate on Trial for Scheme to Hire a Hitman From Jail
After several days of pre-trial action, testimony is set to begin for a Broome County jail inmate accused of hiring someone to commit more crimes for him, including planned murders.
48-year-old Harold Cole is on trial for several felony conspiracy charges for allegedly trying to hire a hitman to commit several kidnappings and murders.
He had been in jail for kidnapping and violating an order of protection when he allegedly tried to pay a man one-thousand dollars to commit crimes for him.
Cole is charged with four felony conspiracy counts in addition to earlier felony kidnapping charges.
Prosecutors had linked the Broome County man to the Ayran Brotherhood white supremacy group.
Authorities have not revealed if any of the plotted "hits" were attempted or successfully carried out. The intended victims have also not been officially revealed.
