A New York City-based entity has purchased the Binghamton Rumble Ponies baseball team from John Hughes.

The acquisition, which was finalized last week, was officially announced by the Rumble Ponies on Monday.

According to a news release, Southpaw Resources LLC has purchased the Rumble Ponies from Hughes, who bought the Double-A team in December 2015 when it was known as the Binghamton Mets. Terms of the sale were not made public.

Southpaw Resources is lead by David Sobotka, who posted an online video saying he is "so excited to join the team."

In the half-minute message, Sobotka said "this is a great, great city and a great, great team with the Mets organization."

Sobotka thanked fans for their support and indicated he is looking forward to seeing them at Rumble Ponies games this spring.

Mayor Richard David announced a 23-year lease extension to enable the team to "be able to call Mirabito Stadium home through 2045."
