Binghamton Baseball Fans Welcome Back the Rumble Ponies

After more than 20 months, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies have finally been able to play in front of a hometown crowd.

Mask-wearing fans showed up at the downtown stadium Tuesday evening for the team's 2021 home opener against the Altoona Curve.

Temperatures were taken at entry gates. Covid-19 rapid testing and vaccinations were offered at the stadium.

Early in the game, Rumble Ponies owner John Hughes said it was "a phenomenal event." He said "we're happy to be back in RumbleTown."

Fans were seated in pods of various sizes throughout the stadium to adhere to state Covid-19 guidance. The capacity rules at the stadium will be relaxed next week.

Binghamton lost the home opener to Altoona 5 to 0. The teams are scheduled to play each other again for five more games through Sunday at the stadium.
