Drivers will encounter significant traffic backups due to pavement and sign work in Binghamton and Port Dickinson.

According to the state Department of Transportation, there will be lane restrictions this week on Interstate 81 and Route 17 related to work on the Prospect Mountain construction project.

Work on the highway is scheduled to run daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Long traffic delays are expected.

Lane closures also are planned on Route 7 around Exit 4, Bevier Street, Frederick Street and Broad Avenue. That work will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.

Periodic alternating lane closures will occur on Bevier Street between Chenango Street and Broad Avenue. Construction workers will direct motorists while a single lane is utilized.
