Police were dispatched to the USA Market store at 33 Edwards Street around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say the business was robbed by a man whose face was covered by a light-colored mask. He displayed what appeared to be a handgun.

The suspect left the store with some cash. He was last seen running on Thorp Street.

Patrol officers and detectives interviewed people in the area of the business. A police dog was used in an effort to track the suspect.

Officers searched the area along both sides of the nearby railroad tracks.

A store employee said no one was hurt. The store had reopened for business around 1:30 p.m.

Police said the suspect was described as a black man, about 6 feet two inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, brown work boots and gloves.

People with information about the robbery may contact the Binghamton police detective bureau at 607.772.7080.
