For the second time in five years, the city of Binghamton is giving a break to people who have failed to pay parking ticket penalties.

Mayor Richard David said late fees for overdue fines will be waived this month.

The program applies to parking tickets issued before November 25. People with overdue fines may take care of the matter by paying the original penalty.

The announcement of the new amnesty program did not indicate how much money the city now is owed in unpaid parking penalties.

When David introduced a similar initiative in 2015, he said Binghamton was owed more than $1 million for more than 19,000 parking tickets that were on the books. The city collected about $51,000 as a result of that amnesty program.

People with parking tickets may pay them online by going to parkingticketassist.com/Binghamton.
