Authorities say 29-year-old Benjamin Galletti of Binghamton was charged with second-degree assault, a felony.

Investigators say Galletti allegedly approached a vehicle as it was stopped at a red light on the Vestal Parkway East near Rano Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say a fight ensued and the man inside the car was stabbed repeatedly. The injured man's girlfriend drove from the scene to take him to a hospital for treatment.

The man with the stab wounds ultimately got out of the vehicle and screamed for help in the area of the IHOP restaurant on the Parkway. He then was transported by an ambulance to a hospital where he was treated and released.

Vestal detectives say Galletti was arraigned on the assault charge in Vestal town court Tuesday. He was being held at Broome County Jail pending further court action.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. People with information may contact Vestal police at 607.754.2477.
