At 7:30 a.m. February 15, Binghamton firefighters were on the scene of a blaze at a three story apartment house on the south side.

Firefighters were called to Conklin avenue between Telegraph and John Streets at around 7:18 a.m. and emergency communications officials were getting reports from motorists and road patrols of heavy smoke being seen rising from the south side.

The building is located just east of the former Crowley manufacturing facility and the Park Diner. There is another three-story building housing a street-level store and apartments on the upper floors attached to the involved structure.

Early reports indicate residents were safely evacuated.

Conklin Avenue was blocked off between Birch and John Streets to facilitate fire operations.
