Binghamton Boy Charged with Attempted Murder in JC Shooting
A Binghamton teenager has been accused of shooting a woman in the chest as she sat in a vehicle in Johnson City.
Authorities say the 16-year-old boy faces three felony counts. He has been charged with attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
Village police received several reports of multiple gunshots near Willow and Lewis streets around 3:35 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators say the woman who was wounded showed up at Wilson Medical Center - west of the shooting scene - a short time after the attack. She was treated at the hospital and released.
Police say the teenage suspect was spotted by a patrol officer on Ozalid Road about five minutes after the incident was reported. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
A semi-automatic handgun was found near where the boy was first seen.
The suspect - whose name was not released - was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
Detectives have not ruled out the possibility the incident is linked to a fatal drive-by shooting that happened on Main Street in Binghamton less than 11 hours earlier.
