Binghamton Arson Building is Being Demolished
A Binghamton property that had been heavily damaged by an arson fire earlier this year is coming down.
Demolition crews are to tear down the former apartment house on Columbus Park East that was torched during a string of arson fires in March.
In August, Binghamton lawmakers approved a proposal to spend $62,000 to tear down the apartment house.
At one point after the fire, the owner had indicated he hoped to remove the damaged front portion of the building and repair the site.
The City deemed the property was unsafe, but a challenge by the owner delayed plans to demolish the site.
Binghamton officials said they hoped to get back the cost of the demolition from the owner.
