The Broome County Department of Transit has made changes to the Johnson City bus stop locations in an attempt to make things safer not only for pedestrians and bus riders but also to ease traffic congestion around town.

If you catch the bus in Johnson City, you need to know that the changes to the bus stops go into effect today, July 21st, 2017. While the bus stop locations are changing, the bus service will not.

According to the office of Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, these are the changes to expect.

Outbound #35 Bus stops in Johnson City {West bound Main Street}:
1. Main Street / Floral Ave no change.
2. Main Street and Lester Ave in front of “Your Home Town Library” no change.
3. Combine the bus stops {2} at Main Street / Avenue “C” and Main Street / Willow Street into one stop at 219 Main Street. This provides a safer location for a bus stop and keeps one near the center of the downtown business district of Johnson City.
4. Main Street and North Broad Street no change.
5. Move the bus stop in front of the Post Office up to Main Street Harrison Street. This will be a safer location for passenger drop off and pick up. There is a pedestrian crosswalk device at this intersection.
6. Main Street / Allen Street move to “downstream” of intersection near NY Penn Trade Center. Per DOT this would be a safer location for passenger drop off and pick up. There is a pedestrian crosswalk device at this intersection.
7. Main Street / 1st Street removed
8. Main Street / 3rd move to “downstream” of intersection. Per DOT this would be a safer location for passenger drop off and pick up. There is a pedestrian crosswalk device at this intersection.
