Another Covid At-Home Test Kit Giveaway Event at Otsiningo Park
Broome County is preparing to distribute several thousand additional Covid-19 test kits in a drive-through event.
County Executive Jason Garnar said more than 5,000 boxes of test kits will be available at Otsiningo Park on Saturday. The event is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to noon while supplies last.
A new route has been created in the park for traffic mitigation and there will be a greater law enforcement presence compared to Wednesday's distribution event. Delays are expected despite the changes.
In a news release issued Friday morning, Garnar said more test kits are available than were on hand earlier this week so "there is no need to arrive early."
County officials were surprised by the number of people who showed up at the park hours before Wednesday's distribution event began.
Traffic backed up at the exits from Interstate 81 and on streets leading to the park.
Garnar is encouraging people who won't be going to the park on Saturday for test kits to consider alternate routes to avoid the area.
Covid testing remains available at the county's rapid testing site at the health department offices on Front Street in Binghamton. Testing also is being offered at state-operated sites at the former Davis College campus on Riverside Drive in Johnson City and at the former Gannett printing plant near CFJ Park in Johnson City.
