More Warnings About Coronavirus Scammers in New York & Southern Tier

New York State Attorney General and local authorities are continuing to find scams and people trying to prey on residents under the veil of the coronavirus pandemic.

Attorney General Letitia James is continuing to track down companies peddling bogus virus killing and prevention products while there are also reports of people calling would-be victims or knocking on doors with schemes ranging from test kits to offers to speed stimulus cash to people in attempts to gain personal information.

The Attorney General has sent multiple cease and desist letters to companies and individuals like Alex Jones, The Silver Edge Company, Doctor Sherill Sellman and televagelist Jim Bakker telling them to stop hawking products as treatments or cures.  Products being sold on MYDoctorSuggests.com like medicinal powders of colloidal silver are being cited for deceptive marketing.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond says he’s been made aware of people offering coronavirus testing kits, which are not approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration and can’t be sent to any certified labs and others who claim to be able to get people government money for a fee.  

He advises people to “maintain a level head during this time and use good common sense.” If it something doesn’t sound right, residents should notify the authorities.
