Alex Trebek Reveals Cancer Diagnosis May Force End to Jeopardy! Tenure

One of America’s most beloved television personalities has revealed that his cancer diagnosis has started to affect his work.

Alex Trebek, the longtime host of the TV game show Jeopardy!, shared the revelation that he may be forced to retire from Jeopardy! in a new interview with the Canadian TV network, CTV.

“I will keep doing it (the show) as long as my skills do not diminish, and they have started to diminish,” Trebek told CTV's Lisa LaFlamme in an interview this week.

The Jeopardy! host shared that he has begun to get sores inside his mouth as a result of the chemotherapy, which has affected his ability to enunciate words at times. Alex says that he has even noticed he’s slurred words sometimes while taping the show.

Trebek first revealed he had been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer back in March. Over the summer, his prognosis had improved. However, Trebek revealed in back September that he had started another round of chemotherapy following a few setbacks. 

Trebek, 79, maintains a positive attitude about the disease.

"The thought of the pancreatic cancer does not frighten me," he told CTV. "I'm 79 years old. So, hey, I've lived a good life, a full life, and I'm nearing the end of that life. I know that."

Jeopardy! is now filming its 36th season, and Trebek has not missed a day of work since his diagnosis.
