Mutual Superfans Adam Rippon + Reese Witherspoon Finally Meet on ‘The Late Show’
There was adoration to spare on Wednesday night's (March 7) episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, when mutual superfans Reese Witherspoon and Adam Rippon finally came face-to-face and cemented what will likely be a beautiful friendship.
Witherspoon, one of many Rippon superfans who was first introduced to the skater during the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, routinely tweeted about her love of the athlete. In turn, Rippon reflected the love.
Finally, Stephen Colbert decided to merge the star-crossed lovers, and surprised Witherspoon by welcoming Rippon to the stage during an interview.
“This is meant to be,” Witherspoon said. “This is the relationship the world’s been waiting for...You smell really good. You’re more handsome in person than on the ice!”
Rippon then handed over his bronze medal to Witherspoon, who audibly gasped.
“I really needed this today,” Rippon said. “Because before I got here today my life was in shambles. I was getting dressed because I wanted to look my best for you, and I lost a button...I’m embarrassed, but I’m not. Do you know what I mean?”
"Totally! You know what, it’s good if you put a necklace over it then nobody will notice it,” she said, and handed back the medal.
