Each parent has a different idea of what their child should be taught at school. Public school v. private or religious; common core, home schooling, etc. One thing I think many people agree on is that our schools aren't teaching enough life skills. Many students leave high school not knowing how taxes work, mortgages and loans, etc.

So what should we be teaching our children? Here's just a few skills a recent study found that SHOULD be taught to our kids at school, but sadly are not...

1. Home improvement - How to fix a toilet that's running, or how to hang a shelf. Most stuff around the house is easy, just intimidating if you've never done it.

2. Basic car maintenance - Like how to jump start your battery, check the air pressure or coolant.

3. How to stick to a budget - Maybe it's hinted on a little in math, or home economics type of class, but it's pretty important so maybe they should actually dedicate a full class to it!

4. Self-defense - You'd just have to figure out a way to do it without kids getting hurt.

5. How to do your taxes - A high school in Georgia actually started teaching kids a few years ago. And part of it was helping low-income families file their tax returns

These are skills we face and use in our daily lives, and some of the other things taught to kids in school doesn't really seem to be helping.
