A massive traffic backup developed after a truck loaded with more than 50 tons of construction debris overturned at the Interstate 81/Route 17 interchange in Binghamton.

The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday on a bridge over the Chenango River in the area of Kamikaze Curve.

Authorities say no injuries were reported when the tractor-trailer rolled on its side in the Prospect Mountain work zone.

The truck driver said he lost control of the rig because of icy conditions. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The left lane of the highway was shut down while crews loaded the 104,000 pounds of trash into several dumpsters. The debris was transported from the scene to the Broome County landfill in the town of Nanticoke.

I-81 Northbound and Route 17 Westbound traffic crawled through the area at about 15 miles per hour.
