You Might Not Have To Get A New License Plate After All
A brand new New York State license plate was announced last week, after a statewide vote picked the new design.
Usually, the requirement is to replace a license plate that is 10 years or older but that may not be necessary this time around.
According to WKBW, governor Andrew Cuomo said in a recent interview that he doesn't want anyone replacing their plate if it's in good condition.
"I don't want anyone to have to replace the plate if the plate is in fine condition," Cuomo said.
That's right. The new plates might not be mandatory, according to Cuomo. He would consider New York State residents keeping their current plate, "as long" as the plate is in good condition.
"We have to find a way to inspect a license plate to determine whether or not it has to be replaced," Cuomo said.
License plates are not under the current mandatory state inspection but the governor said he's open to possibilities on exactly how to check if your plate is in good condition.
