A collaborative of Southern Tier health care systems is awarding more than a million dollars for eight plans to support the rural workforce in the region.

Care Compass Network is dividing the funding to eight proposals in the nine-county region it serves that address workforce shortages by concentrating on education, re-training, rural resources and improving service delivery deficiencies. 

Programs included in the awards are Catholic Charities in Broome County, which is awarded $189,598 for its Peer Support Institute that helps young people find a place in the workforce, Catholic Charities of Chenango County: $180,000 for an employee wellness room, Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network: $49,675 and a life-skills program at Guthrie Cortland, getting the largest amount: $199,999.

Care Compass Network is a not-for-profit organizations with members including Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, UHS Hospitals and Guthrie Hospitals, among other providers and social care providers.
