Broome County reports two more deaths from COVID-19, one of those in the one remaining hot spot for the virus in the County.

County Executive Jason Garnar June 22 reported two men, one in his 60s and one in his 70s passed away Sunday and one of those men was a resident of the Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. 

Broome County has had 51 residents die as a result of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March. There had been 632 Broome County residents testing positive for the coronavirus.

Chenango County’s numbers have been unchanged for days with 139 cases and six deaths. Cortland County has reported 49 cases and one death, Delaware County 81 cases and 4 deaths and 151 cases and 24 deaths in Tioga County.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday announced ten deaths state-wide, 552 new cases and a total of 388,488 positive results for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.  Again, the Governor says just under one percent of those tested over the past day have come back positive.  There were 56,780 tests with the 552 new cases translating into point-nine-seven percent of those tests coming back positive.

The Southern Tier Region is set to move into the final announced phase of reopening in a few days.  Phase Four is due to go into effect June 26, opening the way for arts, education and entertainment venues to reopen.
