Weather-Delayed COVID-19 Vaccines Expected in Southern Tier
New York State Health Department officials are anticipating doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that were delayed due to bad weather last week, forcing the rescheduling of appointments all over the state including in Broome and Chenango Counties, should arrive February 22.
Broome County officials last week called residents in the 1a and 1b priority groups that had appointments at the SUNY Broome Ice Center when they failed to get the promised vaccines for the February 16 session. UHS stepped in to cover some of the doses, but dozens of appointments were rescheduled.
While the weather continued to delay shipment of the Pfizer vaccine, Local health departments said they may wait to book appointments until they actually have the doses on-site. Chenango County had to cancel a vaccination session it had scheduled for Saturday, February 20.
Governor Cuomo said February 21 that the state has been informed the Pfizer doses from last week are due to arrive today and orders placed over the weekend will be sent after that with arrival expected on Tuesday, February 23 and Wednesday, February 24. The delayed Moderna vaccine is expected in the middle of the week.
