Disney has released the first full-length trailer for their upcoming live-action remake of the 1998 animated movie Mulan.

The movie is directed by Niki Caro and stars Liu Yifei as Mulan, a young woman who impersonates a male soldier to serve in the Chinese army in lieu of her ailing father. The trailer follows a teaser released earlier this year during half time of the Women's World Cup.

The cinematography looks beautiful, and the battle scenes look on par with Game of Thrones. And that instrumental rendition of "Reflection" is bound to make you a little misty-eyed.

But something is undeniably missing. Something small and fire-breathing, that sounds like Eddie Murphy. Where the heck is Mushu? Whether or not you like the feisty little guy, there's no arguing that he was a huge part of the animated original. Mushu is the one who literally sets the battle in motion, masquerading as a military officer atop a panda to forge a call to action for Li Shang's troops.

Also missing from the new movie is the role of musical numbers. The original movie was basically a musical — show-stopping numbers like "Reflection" and "I'll Make a Man Out of You" would feel at home on a Broadway stage. But this might not necessarily be a bad thing. Looking at the trend of recent Disney live-action remakes, ones that try to recreate their source material pound for pound end up falling a little flat (looking at you,  Aladdin).

As it turns out, Mulan's more realistic spin might give it a shot at holding a flame to its original. Things won't be too realistic, however. This is Disney we're talking about, and therefore 2020's Mulan will feature a shapeshifting witch.

Mulan is scheduled to hit theaters March 27, 2020.
