Authorities are investigating damage caused by vandals at Arnold Park in Vestal.

A vehicle drove onto the football field, causing extensive damage in the park at Andrews and Pierce Hill roads. The cost of repairing the damage has been estimated at $1,000.

Town parks superintendent James Bukowski said the vandalism is believed to have happened sometime after 9 p.m. Tuesday. The damage was discovered Wednesday morning.

Bukowski said a single vehicle apparently caused the damage. He said "they tore it up pretty good."

The superintendent said there hasn't been much vandalism in Vestal parks this year.

Bukowski said he expects repair work on the field will get underway next week. He said damaged areas of grass will be removed and the field will be reseeded.

Vestal police say people with information about those who may be responsible for the vandalism can contact investigators at 607.754.2477.
