People who shop at the Pier 1 Imports store on the Vestal Parkway are waiting to learn whether the location will be among the hundreds of sites that the company is planning to close.

Bloomberg reported Pier 1 Imports planned to close about 450 stores and lay off many workers at its headquarters.

According to the news story, Pier 1 Imports had drafted a bankruptcy plan in an effort to overhaul its home furnishings business.

An employee at the Vestal store Tuesday said there was no information about the future of the local store.

Pier 1 Imports operates about 940 stores. Several dozen locations are in New York state and Pennsylvania.
