While many parents are home with the kids during the day right now, others are considered essential workers in the coronavirus crisis, and have no choice but to leave their kids home alone.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office posted this checklist to their Facebook page to help in the transition and make sure kids are staying safe at home. Along with a chore checklist and a place to fill out emergency contacts, the checklist includes important safety tips.

  • Lock all doors.
  • Call and check in with parents at assigned times.
  • Do not leave the house.
  • Do not open the door.
  • Do not tell anyone that you are home alone.
  • Know where the first aid kit and fire extinguisher are.

The Sheriff's Office encouraged parents to look over and fill out the checklist with their kids before leaving to ensure they will stay out of harm's way.
