UHS Leases Space for Childcare Center on Davis College Campus
United Health Services has leased one building on the former Davis College campus in Johnson City and is considering leasing another.
Broome County businessman Adam Weitsman, who acquired the property last December, said the health care provider finalized a long-term agreement to use the library building.
Weitsman said a sprinkler system has been installed in the 9,000-square-foot building. The site is to be used as an "Emergency Drop In Childcare Center" for UHS employees. Company representatives could not be reached Thursday to discuss the project.
Weitsman said UHS may also lease the main building on the Riverside Drive campus. He said that structure has about 50,000 square feet of space.
Other regional health care groups also had considered using the Johnson City site.
Weitsman said UHS officials "were very eager to be there." He said work at the former library started a few days after the lease was signed.
Weitsman had envisioned using the Davis College property for basketball and esports academies. Those plans were derailed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
