Voters enrolled in political parties will have an opportunity to cast ballots Tuesday in primary elections across New York state.

Polls will be open in Broome and Tioga counties from noon to 9 p.m.

The biggest contest in the region is the race for the Republican nomination for Broome County district attorney. Paul Battisti and Michael Korchak announced they would seek the party's nomination after Republican incumbent Stephen Cornwell in January revealed he would not run for a second four-year term.

The winner in the primary will face Democratic candidate Debra Gelson in the November 5 general election.

In the village of Endicott, there's a three-way primary battle for the Democratic nomination for mayor. Incumbent Democrat John Bertoni is not seeking a fourth four-year term. Cheryl Chapman, Larry Coppola and Frank Palmisano are vying for the party's nomination.

Other primary contests in Broome County are taking place in the city of Binghamton, as well as in the towns of Vestal and Kirkwood.

In Tioga County, there are primary contests in the towns of Owego, Tioga, Candor, Nichols, Barton and Richford.
