Train Struck, Killed Woman, Then Continued to Binghamton

State police in Binghamton are investigating an incident in which a woman died after she was hit by a freight train in western New York.

Authorities say 50-year-old Janette Moore of Middlebury is believed to have been struck by a Norfolk Southern train in a rural area east of Buffalo.

According to New York State Police, troopers were sent to railroad tracks in the town of Middlebury around 3 a.m. Friday to investigate the discovery of a body.

Investigators say a railroad crew believed their eastbound train had struck a deer or bear around 11 p.m. Thursday. Police say they called in the incident.

About three hours later, workers on a westbound train reported seeing a possible body along the tracks.

Police say Moore was wearing dark-colored clothing when she was struck.

The train that hit Moore continued on and stopped in Binghamton. Investigators from Sidney-based Troop C are working to try to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
