Authorities say a driver died after the vehicle he was operating slammed into a utility pole in the Town of Candor.

Investigators say 58-year-old Kevin Robinson of Candor was killed in the crash on Route 96. It happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, Robinson was traveling north when the car went off the west side of the roadway. It struck several objects, including the pole.

New York State Electric and Gas reported nearly 200 of the utility's customers in the towns of Candor and Owego were without electric service after the crash.

Power to the area was restored several hours later.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by the Candor Fire Department, Candor EMS, Owego Fire Department and the Campville Fire Department.

The New York State Department of Transportation helped to detour traffic.
