A new interim superintendent is taking over the reigns of the Binghamton City School District.

The Board of Education has named Doctor Tonia Thompson interim superintendent, taking over from Steve Deinhardt.

Thompson, who has been working as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability at the district, becomes the third head of the school district in the last three months.

Deinhardt became interim superintendent after Superintendent Marion Martinez was dismissed in March.

Doctor Thompson will serve at least through the end of the 2016-17 school year.

The School Board also made additional adjustments to the administration, including appointing Tim Simonds to the job of East Middle School Principal and David Thon Director of Personnel.
