Authorities say a teenager was arrested following a report that someone dressed in black was carrying a rifle and a pistol at a Union-Endicott school.

According to New York State Police, a 911 call was received around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday regarding an incident at Thomas J. Watson Elementary School on Ridgefield Road in the town of Owego.

Several troopers and Tioga County sheriff's deputies were sent to the school.

A trooper found the suspect walking out of the woods holding what appeared to be a black handgun and a silver handgun. He also had a black and brown long gun.

Investigators say it turned out the weapons were BB guns designed to look like real guns.

The 17-year-old suspect was cited for unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds. Police did not release his name.

The youth was issued an appearance ticket for Owego town court. He is scheduled to appear on June 25.

Officials did not provide any explanation as to why he was on school property with the guns or whether he lives in the area.
