Taylor Garbage Won't Take Recycling from Endicott, JC and Union

Taylor Garbage Service has rejected Broome County's plan to provide assistance following a fire that destroyed the company's Apalachin recycling facility.

The firm Monday posted a statement online indicating it will no longer be handling materials from Endicott, Johnson City and the town of Union.

Just days after a Taylor Garbage Service spokesman expressed appreciation for the county's help in transferring recyclables, the company announced it is rejecting the offer.

The statement said "we have decided it is in our best interest to not move forward" with the plan because "there would be no cost savings."

The statement, issued by Jared Taylor, said the company plans to rebuild the Apalachin complex. It said the company hopes "for this to be completed by the end of 2020."

Garnar Monday afternoon said the county stands ready to assist as Taylor works to restore its Tioga County recycling operation. He said the county will accept recyclables picked up in Endicott and the town of Union at the Nanticoke landfill. The material then will be transported to a material recycling facility.
